Mature, mid to late season birds are best for mounting.

Use care in the field to prevent broken and missing feathers

Put a small amount of paper toweling in the bird's mouth to absorb fluids and prevent feathers from being stained

Allow the bird to cool

Store and freeze with feathers smooth, head tucked to one side, and closely wrapped in a strong plastic bag (like a ziplock). Do Not use paper or pantyhose to wrap your bird. This will actually cause it to dry out.
